New Delhi: Despite having starred in numerous films and TV series, Saumya Tandon is most renowned for her role in the comedy Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain. Saumya appeared in the show for more than five years, beginning in 2015 when it first aired. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that when she was offered the role of Anita bhabhi, she did not even like the show's name. After delaying the presentation for six or seven months, she finally gave in when the producers persisted in convincing her to be a part of the show.
Saumya said, "When I was offered this show, I didn’t even like the name. I just rejected it for the longest time,” she told Digital Commentary. Saumya said that she had a great partnership with Zee TV as she had worked with them for Dance India Dance so when they brought her the proposal of starring in this show, she asked them if she could do another non fiction show. “I said I can’t do daily soaps. They said, ‘No, no you have to, we think you are perfect for it.’ I kept on saying no and they kept on saying yes."
Saumya Tandon claimed that she felt as though she had committed a grave error that would kill her career when she called her ex-boyfriend and declared that she would "die as Bhabi ji" after she began filming. “I said I have made a mistake. This is the end of my career. I will just die as Bhabi ji. I called them (makers) back and I asked them if I can come out of it. They said now we will sue you because we are going on air next week and if you say no, we will sue you now,” she recalled.
Saumya, however, ultimately understood that the show was a fantastic opportunity for her and continued to learn from her director and co-actors.
Saumya left Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain in 2020, having appeared on the show for more than five years. "I gave up a lot of money to not do" the show, she claimed. "Don't go," my producer would constantly remind me. Obtaining this kind of money is difficult. You have a really successful show. But I felt that since I only have one life to live, I should explore new things, and money did not excite me enough," the actress said.
