Film producer Ektaa R Kapoor, who recently celebrated 30 years of her iconic sitcom 'Hum Paanch', humorously sought weight loss suggestions from her followers with a hint of sarcasm.
On Tuesday, Ektaa shared a video on her Instagram while in Chennai, taking a brief break from her hectic schedule. In the video, she asked her followers to help her choose between options for weight loss, such as pharmaceutical drugs like Mounjaro and Ozempic, an anti-inflammatory diet, or whether she should simply refrain from doing anything at all.
Ektaa's indirect dig at Ram Kapoor
The producer appeared to poke fun at actor Ram Kapoor, whose dramatic weight loss journey has caught the attention of the industry. Ektaa humorously wondered if she should just accept her current look, saying, “Hum toh bade hi acche lagte hain.” This remark seemed to playfully reference her own plus-size figure and the title of the popular TV show 'Bade Achhe Lagte Hain', which she produced and starred Ram Kapoor in, a series that marked a turning point in his career.
Earlier, Ektaa shared a nostalgic video on her Instagram of the opening credits of Hum Paanch, with a caption that read, “Things I did when I was 19! Comedy came before drama! 30 years now.”
About Hum Paanch
Produced by Balaji Telefilms, 'Hum Paanch' first premiered in 1995 and became one of India’s most loved comedy shows. The series centered on Anand Mathur (played by Ashok Saraf), a middle-class man constantly caught up in the antics of his five quirky daughters—Meenakshi, Radhika, Sweety, Kajal, and Chhoti. The chaos was further heightened by the spirit of his late wife, who communicated with him through a portrait on the wall.
The show was celebrated for its lighthearted humor, memorable female characters, and sharp dialogues. It holds a special place in the history of Indian television, from a time when the industry was still in its early stages and wasn’t saturated with repetitive content like today.
'Hum Paanch' ran successfully until 1999 and returned for a second season in 2005. It played a significant role in shaping the landscape of Indian television comedy and helped solidify Ektaa R Kapoor’s position as a powerhouse in the industry.
