Border 2 release: JP Dutta’s ‘Border 2’, a sequel to the 1997 blockbuster film with the same name, is set to release in January 2026. According to a Pinkvilla report, the team behind the Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer “has cracked a script." Sunny will reprise his role as Major Kuldip Singh Chanduri in the sequel. Ayushmann has been roped in as a new entrant who will play another strong role in the upcoming film. 

Border 2 release date revealed 

“Border 2 is targeting to hit the big screen on Friday, January 23, 2026, leading to the Republic Day holiday on Monday, January 26, 2026. Being a film celebrating the bravery of Indian Armed Forces, the makers feel that there is no better date than Republic Day for the arrival of this Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana film," Pinkvilla reported citing a source close to the project.

The recent report also says that, as per the source, ‘Border 2’ is "going to be the biggest war film of India".

"Border 2 has been in the writing stage for over a year now and the team has cracked a script that stands to the expectations that people would have from a sequel to a mammoth all-time blockbuster like Border. Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana are very excited to embark on this journey by the end of this year," the source added.

About the movie Border

The sequel to ‘Border’ will be bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The film, which is releasing 29 years after the first part, will be directed by Anurag Singh. 

‘Border’, written, produced and directed by JP Dutta, is set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The war film is based on the events of the Battle of Longewala. The ensemble cast includes Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna,  Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, and Sharbani Mukherjee among others.
