Filmmaker Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, featuring a stellar cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, created waves at the box office following its release last year. The film’s groundbreaking visuals and gripping storyline left audiences eager for a sequel.

Now, amid the growing excitement, Ashwin has shared a significant update on the much-anticipated follow-up.

Nag Ashwin Provides Crucial Update on Kalki 2898 AD Sequel

During the 10th-anniversary celebration of his debut directorial Yevade Subramanyam, which is set for a theatrical re-release, Ashwin delighted fans by confirming that preparations for Kalki 2898 AD Part 2 are underway. He announced that filming is scheduled to begin in December this year.

Addressing concerns about Prabhas’ limited screen time in the first part, Ashwin clarified that the initial installment focused on establishing the world and exploring the backstories of Sumati (Deepika Padukone) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) to build a strong foundation for Karna’s (Prabhas) journey.

He assured fans, saying, "The second part will have more of Prabhas, as it will be majorly centred around the Karna and Ashwatthama characters."

Sequel Expected to Take Three Years to Complete

Earlier, during an Instagram Live session with Prabhas, Nag Ashwin had mentioned that Part 2 of the film is expected to take around three years to complete. In the first part, Prabhas portrayed Bhairava, a rugged and ambitious bounty hunter from the dystopian city of Kasi.

Amitabh Bachchan delivered a remarkable performance as Ashwatthama, while Deepika Padukone played SUM-80, a woman carrying a child believed to be the last divine avatar of Lord Vishnu, Kalki. Kamal Haasan portrayed Yaskin, the primary antagonist.

Kalki 2898 AD’s Phenomenal Box Office Success

Kalki 2898 AD was lauded for its impressive VFX and captivating storyline. While some fans wished for more screen time for Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of Ashwatthama was widely praised. The film emerged as a box office juggernaut, collecting ₹1,042.25 crore worldwide and ₹646.31 crore in India, as reported by Sacnilk.

The release date for the film is yet to be finalized.

Additionally, Prabhas is set to star in Fauji (directed by Hanu Raghavapudi), Spirit (directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga), and Brahmarakshas (directed by Prasanth Varma), adding to the anticipation surrounding his future projects.
