Manoj Bajpayee's Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai Likely To Release In Theatres Post OTT Premiere

Manoj Bajpayee’s courtroom drama ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ was released on ZEE5 recently and has been receiving rave reviews since then.

New Delhi: Manoj Bajpayee’s courtroom drama ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ was released on ZEE5 recently and has been receiving rave reviews since then. The audience showered their love on the film and praised the actor for his brilliant acting. Looking at people’s response, the film will have a limited theatrical release soon.

In an interview with Indian Express, the actor said that the film will have a theatrical release to honour audience demand.

“In the beginning I was the only one fighting with Zee Studios and Shariq, the head, with Vinod Bhanushali, and the entire team. That this film is made for theatres. “We are still arguing about it, who was right and who is not right, that’s a very hilarious one. But because of the massive public demand, Zee Studio and Vinod are sitting together as we speak, brainstorming as to how to go about releasing it in theatres. At least symbolically, to respect the demand of the audience. Let’s see where it goes from here,” he was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

In the film, Manoj plays a lawyer, who fights an infamous rape case against a self-proclaimed godman in a Jodhpur court and gets the latter convicted.

Directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, the film also received a standing ovation after its screening at the New York Indian Film Festival.

The film was also embroiled in a few controversies before and after its release. After the trailer of the film was released, the makers of the film were sent a legal notice by self-styled godman Asaram, sentenced to life for sexually exploiting a minor, and the Sant Shri Asaramji Ashram Charitable Trust alleging that the trailer of the film is "highly objectionable and defamatory".

After the film’s release, advocate Poonam Chand Solanki from Jodhpur, who is said to be the 'inspiration' for the film, sent a legal notice to the makers.

"I have taken the legal recourse in this matter. How can it be claimed that the movie is inspired by real-life events involving me when no NOC was collected from me, nor the script was approved by me? Those who signed an agreement with me sold the rights without informing me," Solanki told IANS.

"I have filed a case in the trial court and notices have been served to the producers and others. Imagine, in June 2021, they signed an agreement with me and in September, they sold the rights to another party... How can they do it," Solanki added.
