When Karan Johar Said Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Wouldn’t Have Been Possible Without Aishwarya Rai, Watch
When Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' director Karan Johar talked about how the director collaborated by Aishwarya after a long break.
The romantic drama film 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil', directed by Karan Johar, was released in 2016. The film was led the ensemble cast including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, and Ranbir Kapoor. Although the film did not manage to be a commercial success at the box office, Aishwarya Rai’s performance in it was definitely lauded by the viewers.
Karan Johar said Aishwarya was 'the most indispensable' casting in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
During the promotional tour, Karan Johar and Aishwarya Rai appeared together for an interview with Komal Nahta. While talking about how the director collaborated by Aishwarya after a long break, Johar claimed that the actor was 'the most indispensable' casting of the film.
In the interview, Karan said in Hindi, "Finally, when it comes to Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, I would like to say that the most indispensable casting was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s. If Ranbir hadn't agreed, I would have found a solution; if Anushka hadn’t agreed, I would have had another option. But for Aishwarya, there were no alternatives. If she hadn’t agreed, I wouldn’t have been able to make the film. The role of Saba was such that only Aishwarya Rai could have played it. When you watch the film, I’m not just saying this, you’ll see that you wouldn’t be able to imagine anyone else in that role either."
Karan Johar shared how Aishwarya's character was refreshing
Speaking of Aishwarya's role, he added, "Because I know the film is about its characters. As for Ayan, Alizeh, and Saba, the latter represents a crucial phase in the film. I don’t think Aishwarya has played a role like this before. Typically, in our romantic films, the male leads carry their hearts on their sleeves. But here, for the first time, a woman is carrying her love and desire in the palms of her hands and projecting it."
Under the banner of Dharma Productions, the tragic movie 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' is both directed and produced. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in pivotal roles. Pakistani actor Fawad Khan made an extended cameo appearance. The film hit the theatres on October 28, 2016.
