KALA CHASHMA: 80 million views BUT only Rs.11,000 to the WRITER!

New Delhi: What if we told you that the song you've been dancing to non-stop 'Kala Chashma' from Katrina-Sidharth starer 'Baar Baar Dekho' is actually written by a constable in Punjab? Well, believe us because it's true. Amrik Singh Shera ,43,  from Punjab's Talwandi Chaudhrian village near Jallandhar, head constable in Kapurthala (Punjab Police),  wrote this song back in 1990. Little did he know it'll become a hot-hit all across the world! Hindustan Times recorded, “two months ago, I got a call from one of my friends that ‘Kala Chashma’ was being played on one of the channels. I don’t know how I felt. I was happy but also shocked about everything that was happening,” says Shera who had no idea that the song he'd written in 9th class when he was only 15 has made it to Bollywood, and made it rather big. He claims he was approached by Jalandhar-based Angel Record Company four months ago for other songs “and I was told that a Mumbai-based company needed my song to be played at the inauguration of cement firm”. He signed the agreement and got only Rs 11,000 in return. Yet, Shera says he has “no ill-feelings for anyone” but a grudge that “no one from the film industry called me to Mumbai during the music launch or screening of the film. I just wanted to go there and let everyone know that a person from a small village in Punjab has written the song.” He adds, “if you listen to ‘Kala Chashma’ carefully, in the last stanza I have mentioned my village Talwandi Chaudhrian’s name.” Gaurav Trehan, owner of Catrack Record Company, confirmed that the song was first released by the company in Punjab. The singer of the hit number, Arshi , too agreed that the lyricist is indeed Amrik Singh Shera.
