Abhay Deol Claims Dev D Was His Idea, Reveals Anurag Kashyap 'Didn't Direct Him At All'
Abhay Deol remembered working on Dev D and said that Anurag "didn't direct him at all" in the movie.
New Delhi: Abhay Deol has once more addressed his experience working with Anurag Kashyap on their sole collaboration, 'Dev D'. Abhay was asked if he had ever worked with filmmakers who were clueless about how to deal with actors during a recent interview with seasoned actor Anupam Kher at his acting school. Then, Abhay remembered working on 'Dev D' and said that Anurag "didn't direct him at all" in the movie.
When Anupam Kher questioned Abhay on how certain filmmakers didn't know how to deal with actors during an interaction, Abhay replied,“It’s not often that this happens, but it happens. Like in Dev D, Anurag didn’t direct me at all. He didn’t say anything, he just let me be. But then that was an idea I had come up with and a character I knew. So, it wasn’t even like I was asking him. He allowing me to do my thing, and not saying anything as a director to an actor, encouraged me to think what I’m doing must be right. And I continued doing that.”
Abhay Deol had previously spoken out about Anurag fabricating stories about him for the media. The actor had refuted Anurag Kashyap's previous statement that he had wanted a five-star hotel stay while 'Dev D' was being filmed. Abhay recently accused the director of lying and being a "toxic person," and Anurag had responded to it. In an interview, he stated that he was ready to apologise to Abhay once more and that each person has their "own version of truth."
Meanwhile, Anurag described his time on the set of 'Dev D' with Abhay Deol as "painfully difficult" in an interview from 2020. He claimed that while the actor desired "artistic movies," he also wanted the "luxuries of being a Deol." Anurag had stated in the same interview that while 'Dev D' was filming in Delhi, Abhay would "stay in a five-star hotel, while the entire crew stayed in Paharganj."
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama earlier this month, Abhay contradicted Anurag's previous statement and said,“I had my heart on my sleeve, and all that is great – but you get taken advantage of, and then you get reactive. So, he (Anurag Kashyap) was a good lesson for me. Then I just avoided him, because I don’t need toxic people in my life. Life is too short, and there is so much more to explore. But he (Anurag) is definitely a liar and a toxic person. And I would warn people about him.”
Abhay Deol was last seem in Netflix's limited series 'Trial By Fire' which was based on the Uphaar cinema fire tragedy.
