Aamir Khan Will Not Star In Mahabharat? Actor Shares Deets On His Dream Project

Aamir Khan’s long-cherished dream of adapting the epic Mahabharat for the big screen continues to be a topic of intrigue among fans.

Aamir Khan’s long-cherished dream of adapting the epic Mahabharat for the big screen continues to be a topic of intrigue among fans. Over the years, rumours about the ambitious project have surfaced time and again, only to fade into the background. Now, the superstar has once again addressed the much-anticipated film, this time offering a glimpse into its development and scale.

Aamir Khan on starting work on The Mahabharat

In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir confirmed that The Mahabharat remains one of his biggest aspirations. “I’m hoping to start work on [it] this year," he revealed, confirming that the wheels are finally in motion.

He added that the film will be an expansive adaptation, made in multiple parts, much like The Lord of the Rings series. However, he made it clear that the project is still in its early stages. “It will take a while because the writing process will take a few years,” he said.

As for his role in the film, Aamir shared that he hasn't decided whether he’ll act in it himself. The focus, he said, will be on casting the right people for each role. “We’ll see who we should cast based on who’s appropriate for which part,” he explained.

Given the scale of the project, Aamir also expressed hesitation about taking on directorial duties. “I don’t think you can tell the Mahabharat in one film, so it will be multiple films. I am looking at the large scale.” He added that it might be a collaborative effort: “It’s too early to say, but we may need multiple directors.”

Aamir Khan's work front

On the professional front, Aamir was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), which failed to make a mark at the box office. He’s now gearing up for Sitaare Zameen Par, a thematic sequel to his critically acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film will reunite him with actor Darsheel Safary and feature Genelia Deshmukh in a leading role. While an official release date hasn’t been announced, fans are already eager for another emotionally resonant tale from the actor.
