Metro…In Dino Emerges As 2025’s Most Unexpected Box Office Winner

Despite fierce competition, Anurag Basu’s Metro…In Dino emerges as a surprise box office hit, driven by emotional storytelling and strong urban audience connect.

In a landscape dominated by Hollywood blockbusters like Superman and F1, Anurag Basu’s 'Metro…In Dino' has carved out a distinct space at the Indian box office. Despite facing stiff competition, the film has shown resilience, grossing ₹32.01 crore nett in India within just eight days of its release. What began as a modest opening has transformed into a slow-burning success, propelled by organic word-of-mouth and emotional resonance with urban audiences.

Trade Analysts Laud the Film’s Consistency

Noted film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh weighed in on the film’s unexpected box office traction.

“Metro…In Dino has managed to hold its ground remarkably well, especially given the tough box office environment and stiff competition from bigger titles,” he said.

“Despite the odds, the film has shown consistency through the weekdays and is headed for a promising second weekend. The footfalls are steady, and that says a lot. What’s working is the relatability, Anurag Basu’s storytelling has struck a chord.”

Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Business Planning & Strategy at PVR INOX Limited, echoed similar sentiments.

“Metro…In Dino has shown remarkable consistency at the box office,” he said. “In a competitive landscape, it’s encouraging to see audiences returning to cinemas for a film that’s driven purely by strong storytelling and emotional depth.”

Realistic Storytelling Strikes a Chord

Backed by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and directed by Anurag Basu, 'Metro…In Dino' explores the emotional fabric of modern relationships with sincerity. Featuring well-etched characters and honest writing, the film has resonated particularly with urban viewers seeking substance over spectacle.

A source close to the production noted, “Budgeted at ₹40 crore with ₹7 crore on print and advertising, ‘Metro…इन दिनों’ was never about extravagance and that’s exactly its strength. It’s grounded, honest, and connects with audiences where it matters most.”

With strong holdover performance, particularly in metro cities, the film is positioned to enjoy a healthy theatrical run through its second weekend and beyond. Its successful trajectory reaffirms the belief that content-driven cinema can thrive, even in a crowded box office environment.
