Health Update: Lata Mangeshkar Is Stable, Says Spokesperson
92-year-old Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai on January 9.
Singing legend Lata Mangeshkar, who was admitted in the ICU of a city hospital is stable, her spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The 92-year-old singer tested positive for coronavirus with mild symptoms and was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai on January 9.
"Lata Di is stable. Will come home after the doctors give the nod," Anusha Srinivsan Iyer, the spokesperson for Mangeshkar, said in a statement.
Earlier, Dr Pratit Samdani treating Lata Mangeshkar had said that she will continue to be in ICU for 10-12 days and is being closely monitored and treated for both COVID-19 and pneumonia infections.
Meanwhile, Lata Mangeshkar's younger sister, Usha Mangeshkar had told ETimes after the veteran singer's hospitalisation,"We cannot go to see Didi as it is a COVID case. There are sufficient doctors and nurses there, though." She had also informed that Lata Mangeshkar might not be discharged very soon because of her age.
Few days ago, Mangeshkar's condition was reportedly said to be deteriorating and the spokesperson had then dubbed the news as false.
"It is disturbing to see false news being circulated. Please note that Lata didi is stable. Continues to be in ICU under treatment of able doctors. Please pray for her quick return home," Iyer had said.
Known as the Queen of Melody and the Nightingale of India, Mangeshkar started her career at the age of 13 in 1942 and has sung over 30,000 songs in different languages.
After learning about Lata Mangeshkar's health, several fans and members from the film industry and other fields took to social media to wish her a speedy recovery. It is also learnt that Prime Minister Narendra Modi enquired about the health of Lata Mangeshkar.
Lata Mangeshkar was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in 2001. She is also the recipient of several awards including Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke Award, and multiple National Film Awards.
