'It’s Unfortunate That The Movie Didn’t Work Out': Naga Chaitanya Talks About The Failure Of 'Laal Singh Chaddha'

The Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya discussed the movie's disastrous failure and his decision to star in it in a recent interview.

New Delhi: In Aamir Khan's ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, South Indian sensation Naga Chaitanya made his much anticipated Bollywood debut. Naga portrayed Balaraju aka Bala, Laal's companion and fellow soldier in the Indian Army, in the Hindi film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, which was an adaptation of Tom Hanks' hit ‘Forrest Gump’. The Telugu actor discussed the movie's disastrous failure and his decision to star in it in a recent interview. Despite the film's poor reception, Naga Chaitanya said he had no regrets about doing it.

Naga, who is now promoting the Tamil-Telugu bilingual film ‘Custody’, has revealed that the storyline of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ first struck a deep chord with him. Naga described his participation in the Bollywood adaptation of Laal Singh Chaddha as an "investment for the future."

Talking to Mirchi 9, “The main reason for me to do that project was to travel with Aamir sir. As an actor, I wished I get to travel with him for just 2 days to learn from him. I walked into the project with this mindset. But I got to work with him for 5-6 months.”

“There was a lot of honesty, even in the way Aamir sir was working. I just followed him in this journey and I have no regrets at all. It’s unfortunate that the movie didn’t work out but I came out as an evolved person, both professionally and personally. It’s because of what he taught me,” the actor added.

After the financial failure of 2014's ‘Thugs of Hindostan’, Aamir Khan finally returned to the big screen with last year's August release, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. The Advait Chandan film, which also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, opened to little anticipation and grossed Rs 55 crore throughout its whole theatrical run.
