The Shining And Nashville Star Shelley Duvall Passes Away At 75

Actor Shelley Duvall, who starred in Stanley Kubrick's ‘The Shining’, passed away at 75.

‘The Shining’ actor Shelley Duvall passed away on Thursday. The Texas-born actor died at her residence in Blanco. She was 75.

Dan Gilroy, her longtime partner, confirmed the news. He revealed that the star had been bedridden for several months due to complications of diabetes.

“My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley,” Gilroy told The Hollywood Reporter.

Gilroy said she passed away on Thursday in her sleep at her home. Later, he told NBC News, “She's gone after much suffering. I can't tell you how much I miss her.”

Born on July 7, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, Shelley Duvall was the oldest of four. The actor’s father, Robert, worked in law, and her mother, Bobbie, worked in real estate.

Duvall was spotted by Robert Altman’s crew members at a party in Houston in 1970, when she was attending junior college in Texas. Back then, the director was preparing for the dark comedy 'Brewster McCloud', and he cast her in the film.

In an interview with The New York Times in 1977, Duvall said, “He offers me ... good roles.” 

“None of them have been alike. He has a great confidence in me, and a trust and respect for me, and he doesn’t put any restrictions on me or intimidate me, and I love him. I remember the first advice he ever gave me: ‘Don’t take yourself seriously’,” she added.

She went on to appear in Altman films including 'Nashville', 'Popeye', 'Three Women', 'Thieves Like Us', and 'McCabe & Ms. Miller'. The actor appeared in several defining movies, including Stanley Kubrick’s horror film ‘The Shining’. She played Wendy Torrance and Starrer alongside Jack Nicholson.
