Yograj Singh Calls Taare Zameen Par ‘Wahiyat' And Baahubali 'Bekar': 'Hindi Films Aren’t Worth Watching'

Yograj Singh, a former cricketer and coach, and father of renowned cricketer Yuvraj Singh, criticised Aamir Khan’s acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par, dismissing it as “wahiyat” (worthless).

Yograj Singh, a former cricketer and coach, and father of renowned cricketer Yuvraj Singh, recently shared his thoughts on his parenting methods. In a recent interview, Yograj while talking about his parenting choices, also stirred controversy by criticising Aamir Khan’s acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par, dismissing it as “wahiyat” (worthless).

Yograj Singh on his strict parenting

In a conversation with YouTuber Samdish Bhatia on the show 'Unfiltered by Samdish', one of the key topics discussed was Yograj’s insistence on shaping Yuvraj’s career path. He addressed an incident where he had thrown skates at his son, a move aimed at steering Yuvraj away from roller skating and toward cricket. Yograj stood by his actions, firmly stating, “Baccha woh hi banega jo baap kahega (A child becomes what their father wants them to be).” This strict parenting style, he believes, played a pivotal role in Yuvraj’s success.

Yograj calls Taare Zameen Par wahiyat film

When asked about 'Taare Zameen Par', a film highlighting a dyslexic child’s struggles with a demanding father, Yograj did not hold back his disapproval. He labeled the movie as “badi hi wahiyat film hai” (a really bad film) and added, “Main aisi picture nahi dekhta” (I don’t watch such films). While Yograj admitted to training Yuvraj rigorously, he clarified that he never physically harmed him.

Yograj calls Baahubali rubbish

Expanding on his views of Hindi cinema, Yograj expressed a general disdain for Indian films and actors. He remarked, “Hindi film koi dekhne ki cheez hai. I don’t like Indian actors (Hindi films aren’t worth watching).” He dismissed popular actors like Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor and blockbuster hits like Baahubali as “bekar” (rubbish). Instead, he praised Hollywood classics such as Ben Hur and The Godfather, along with the Punjabi crime thriller Kohrra.

In past interviews, Yuvraj Singh has opened up about his father’s tough love. He revealed that his passion for roller skating, which earned him a gold medal in the under-14 national championships, was cut short when Yograj threw away his skates and medal. Yuvraj also recalled enduring intense training sessions from a very young age under his father’s strict supervision.
