When Salman Khan Fired A Shot At Shah Rukh Khan On Karan Arjun Set: 'The Entire Crew Froze In Shock'

Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, now two of Bollywood’s biggest superstars, first shared screen space in Rakesh Roshan’s 1995 blockbuster Karan Arjun.

Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, now two of Bollywood’s biggest superstars, first shared screen space in Rakesh Roshan’s 1995 blockbuster Karan Arjun. At the time, both actors were on the rise, and their off-screen camaraderie was just as entertaining as their on-screen chemistry. While they got along famously, the duo often played pranks on the cast and crew, sometimes even pretending to have serious arguments just to confuse those around them.

In a recent interview with Galatta India, veteran comedian Johny Lever, who was also part of Karan Arjun, shared a hilarious yet shocking incident from the film’s shoot. He recalled a moment when Salman Khan pulled out a gun and pretended to shoot Shah Rukh Khan, leaving the entire crew in stunned silence.

Johny Lever on Salman’s Prank with Shah Rukh

Johny Lever revealed that the Karan Arjun team was filming in Jaipur, and Salman would constantly tease Shah Rukh on set. This had some of the crew members, including Johny himself, worried that SRK might take offense. "All the other people, including me, got a little worried that Shah Rukh might take these things to heart," he said.

One night, after the shoot, the cast and crew were partying together when a playful argument broke out between Salman and Shah Rukh. That’s when things took a dramatic turn. “Suddenly, Salman pulled out a gun, and all of us heard a gunshot. Then we saw Shah Rukh fall to the ground,” Johny recalled.

The entire crew froze in shock. Veteran writer Honey Irani, who was present at the party, couldn’t believe what had just happened. But within moments, Shah Rukh got up, and both actors burst into laughter, revealing it was all an elaborate prank.

Salman and Shah Rukh on Their Karan Arjun Antics

Both Shah Rukh and Salman have spoken about their mischievous behaviour during the filming of Karan Arjun. Salman once recounted this very prank on Aap Ki Adaalat, explaining how he pulled it off. “I told Shah Rukh, I’ll call you for dance, you refuse, and then we will engage in a scuffle, and here’s a blank gun. I will fire a shot at you, and you will fall down. Shah Rukh said he was not in a mood, he was tired,” Salman recalled.

But things escalated quickly. “My brother Sohail was there. I pulled Shah Rukh’s hand, and he snatched it away. He pushed me, and I also pushed him. A scuffle ensued, I took out the gun, and fired a shot at him. Shah Rukh did a somersault and fell down.”

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh, in an old episode of The Roshans, admitted that he and Salman often troubled director Rakesh Roshan during the shoot. He shared that Rakesh’s wife, Pinkie Roshan, even scolded him for their behavior. “Pinkie ji scolded me a lot. ‘You are troubling Guddu (Rakesh) a lot. I did not expect this from you.’ Because between Salman and me, I was slightly better, at least on the face of it. We were two young kids who were troubling a father figure, to be very honest,” SRK recalled.

A Friendship That Stands the Test of Time

Despite their ups and downs over the years, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan’s bond remains one of Bollywood’s most cherished friendships. Their Karan Arjun days were filled with playful pranks, laughter, and mischief—proving that even in the early days of their careers, their chemistry was truly one of a kind.
