Tamannah Bhatia On Getting Misogynistic Comments For Her Intimate Scenes In 'Lust Stories 2': 'It Is A Personal Attack'

New Delhi: Actress Tamannaah Bhatia questions why audiences are quick to criticise the morality of a female actor being sexual on television while male actors perform worse and go on to become "superstars" and is perplexed by the "stark" misogynistic remarks directed at her for her intimate sequences in Lust Stories 2.

Tamannaah did not hold back when she called out the hypocrisy in an interview for Mojo Story with journalist Barkha Dutt. She also noted that it is odd that a female actor doing intimate scenes on-screen permits people to make derogatory remarks about her.

Talking about the disparity in people's views regarding male actors and female actors doing sexual scenes, the 'Bahubali' actress said, "The misogyny is so stark in my face. I was hoping by 2023 that would not be the case, but this time around it felt really stark, primarily because when I started being an actor and I was really young, I was still dancing and looking glamourous. So it’s not that I have had a non glamourous image and now all of a sudden it is turned into something. I just found it strange that even in 2023, why does a female actor need to have this definition… Like if she doing intimate scenes, it is a personal attack."

She further continued, "I have seen men do it all the time, play abusive characters, do violence and probably all kind of things that are illegal, but they become superstars. But an actress, all of a sudden, is bad character. Which makes no sense, I can’t wrap my head around it."

Tamannaah claimed that after almost two decades in the industry, she felt the need to spice things up and try something new. The actor claimed that if the actress had "really" stayed in her comfort zone, she might have done a variety of commercial movies, "one hit after another." "That's the quickest way. However, I reached a stage when I needed to develop as an artist."

The actress also mentioned that she is aware of all the comments that have been coming her way and said, "I have read stuff like, ‘Isko kya majboori hai ki ye aise scenes kar rahi hai (What was her helplessness to do intimate scenes like these)’. I found that strange because if tomorrow I play a serial killer, will that make me a bad person?”

Tamannah Bhatia marked her digital debut with the web-series 'Jee Karda', the story of six friends and then went on to star in Sujoy Ghosh's film in the anthology 'Lust Stories 2.' On the personal front, Tamannaah Bhatia is currently dating actor Vijay Varma, for whom she broke her 17-year long no on-screen kiss policy.
