Sonu Nigam Says Actors Do Not Fight For Singers: 'I Could Still Be Singing For Shah Rukh Khan'

According to Sonu Nigam, if movie stars fought for vocalists they valued, he would still be performing for stars like Shah Rukh Khan.

New Delhi: According to Sonu Nigam, if movie stars fought for vocalists they valued, he would still be performing for stars like Shah Rukh Khan. Sonu Nigam claimed in an interview with Zoom Entertainment that while actors may discuss their preferences, they do not genuinely battle for the singers.

Sonu Nigam mentioned that many actors respected him as a singer and said, "I don’t think actors fight or interfere with singers in their films. If that was the case, I would still be singing for Shah Rukh Khan. They (actors) think this is the composer’s or director’s department. The best they can do is give their preference. But they don’t fight for anyone.”

Sonu also discussed the potential for his most recent cooperation with Aamir Khan for Laal Singh Chaddha. It was said that Aamir Khan insisted Sonu Nigam be a part of the movie. Sonu claimed that Aamir requested a specific artist because he was both the film's producer and actor.

Sonu also said, “Like, in PK, when I sang the song (Bhagwan Hai Kahan Re Tu), I had a tiff with the music companies. They did not want me to sing. But, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra put their foot down, ‘Sonu hi gaayega (only Sonu will sing this song)'.”  The singer stated that he basically takes things day by day and doesn't think of himself as being all that important.

Sonu Nigam not only dominated the 90s indie-pop scene but also sung some of the biggest Bollywood songs of the time. In films like Pardes and Dil Se, he also provided Shah Rukh Khan with a number of popular songs.

He has since made a comeback with a brand-new song called Bitter Betrayals, in collaboration with Gulshan and Bhushan Kumar.

Earlier talking to ANI about the new project, Sonu had said, "I am happy with the response this song is getting from the audience. Gulshan Kumar ji has a very big role in my career. I have done a lot of good work even with Bhushan. After Gulshan ji's death, I took care of Bhushan like my brother. They also supported me a lot."
