Amid India's Got Latent controversy, an old video from Samay Raina's stand-up show in Ahmedabad has resurfaced, reigniting discussions about his stance on comedy.

Popular YouTuber and comedian Samay Raina has found himself in the midst of controversy after a remark made by fellow YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia on his show India’s Got Latent sparked outrage online. In response to the backlash, Samay removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel.
Samay Raina's old video talking about his jokes go viral
Now an old video from his stand-up show in Ahmedabad has resurfaced, reigniting discussions about his stance on comedy. The clip, recorded in 2024, features Samay addressing his audience, urging them to put their phones away as he speaks candidly about the nature of his jokes.
“Phone hata do, just want to talk dil se (from the heart). Before I leave… jo bhi ek ghanta maine baatein kari, main aisa aadmi nahi hu (whatever I spoke about in the last hour, I am not actually that kind of person),” he tells the audience.
When a spectator in the crowd jokingly called it a “cover-up,” Samay quickly responded, “It’s not a cover-up, I am trying to tell you something. I could have left and been like…” before gesturing to imply that he could have simply ended his set without further explanation.
Breaking down his perspective on comedy, he added, “But I would like to break the facade for you… We all write jokes to make you laugh, par inn sabka koi matlab nahi hai (but these jokes don’t actually mean anything). This is a game and these are cheat codes.” He then referenced a joke he had cracked earlier in his set, clarifying, “Nana zinda hai mera (My grandfather is alive). We write things that work, you have a good time, and we make money. That’s it.”
What Samay Raina had said about the controversy
Amid the controversy, Samay is currently touring Canada and the United States with his stand-up show Samay Raina Unfiltered. Following the removal of his show from YouTube, Samay shared a note on social media addressing the situation. “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you,” he wrote.
