Actor Kubbra Sait has bravely shared a deeply personal chapter of her life, recounting her experience with abortion and the emotional toll it took on her. In a recent interview, she shared that at the time, she did not perceive her decision as an act of strength but rather as a consequence of feeling unable to proceed with the pregnancy. Kubbra underwent the procedure alone, a decision that she later realised had a profound impact on her life.
Kubbra Sait went for getting an abortion alone
In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, recalling her state of mind during that period, she expressed, “When I went through the abortion, I don’t think I was being strong at all. I was just too weak to take it forward. I didn’t have the courage or the strength to say that if I don’t do this, then I will live with it. I felt very weak at that time. I felt hollow. I felt like I was not worth it at all. But what came out of it much later was strength. That you made a decision for yourself and stood by your own thoughts. You broke stereotypical patterns, you broke societal norms and no one knew about it. I went by myself and got myself through the abortion. I didn’t tell anyone.”
When Kubbra cried, telling this to a friend
The actor also shared a poignant moment when she first spoke about her experience. A few weeks after the procedure, she confided in a close female friend who had been feeling distant. The revelation left both of them overwhelmed with emotion. “I just told her. ‘Who went through an abortion? You?’ And that’s when it hit her and that’s when it hit me and that’s when I started weeping because I was like, ‘I have not told this to anyone.’ No one knows that this is what I have gone through,” she shared.
Kubbra on her decision
Reflecting on the magnitude of her decision, Kubbra admitted that, at the time, she did not fully grasp its long-term consequences. “What if I died? And you are taking this decision all by yourself. No one knows and no one cares. And this is not a small decision of your life. You don’t know how it’s going to impact the rest of your life.”
