Katrina Kaif On Stepping Out Of Commercial Cinema With 'Merry Christmas': 'You Can Feel Nervous'

In a recent press conference for her upcoming film, 'Merry Christmas,' Bollywood star Katrina Kaif shared her insights and excitement about stepping out of her comfort zone.

New Delhi: In a recent press conference for her upcoming film, 'Merry Christmas,' Bollywood star Katrina Kaif shared her insights and excitement about stepping out of her comfort zone, working with acclaimed director Sriram Raghavan, and collaborating with co-star Vijay Sethupathi.

Kaif began by acknowledging the nerves and fear that can accompany stepping into uncharted territory, especially when it deviates from the realm of large commercial entertainers. She said, "You can feel nervous or a little fearful when you step out of the zone of a large commercial entertainer. But, I think, the solution for that is you be fearless and overcome that fear because the experience in that is really incredible for an actor. And it is an important thing for my growth as an actor and as a performer, so I'll just say you feel the fear and feel the nerves, that's good, let that drive you and give every film your heart and soul, that's what I try to do."

Talking about her experience of working with director Sriram Raghavana and Vijay Sethupathi, Katrina said, "I was really excited to be working with Sriram sir and Vijay. The moment we got together in a room, I think everyone came just as themselves and we were instantly able to connect.  The minute Vijay sir started speaking about a scene, it was fascinating for me, I just thought that this is the person who views things in such a unique way and Sriram sir has a very unique take on everything he does, it's the way he sees stories, the way he sees people. It was just about us coming together and finding our rhythm and finding our own way of working and bringing the script to life on film."

On choosing a film like 'Merry Christmas', the 'Tiger 3' actress shared her views and said, "As an actor you are looking to tell a story and be a part of a story that is really interesting, and for me Merry Christmas ticked all the boxes. It was really really a unique journey, a unique story about two fascinating characters, the minute I heard it I was hooked. I am not observing or calculating that. Of course there are high octane action films which is wonderful, it is a certain type of cinema. But there are also intimate and unique stories to be told and that story has to be told at a scale that is suitable to that particular story. For an actor to be able to do both is what we are supposed to be doing and it's what I personally enjoy doing."

She added further, "For me this was a Sriram Raghavan film that I thought had a fantastic story and I was excited to be a part of this journey. It was an interesting journey actually. A few parts of the story (Sriram) sir has not shared yet, there were lots of twists and turns even before we got on set. It has a life of its own. And when it finally landed up with me and Vijay being in the film, the first day interaction for me was very fascinating."
