Kartik Aaryan, the actor from Chandu Champion, has congratulated Murlikant Petkar, India's first Paralympic gold medalist, after he was selected for the prestigious Arjuna Award (Lifetime). Petkar, who made history by winning the gold medal in the 50m freestyle swimming event at the 1972 Heidelberg Paralympics, was portrayed by Aaryan in the 2024 sports drama Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Aaryan expressed his joy and admiration for Petkar’s achievements, writing, “A huge congratulations to Sri Murlikant Petkar Ji. Our film begins with a scene where you’re fighting for the Arjuna Award, and now, seeing you receiving the greatest sports honor of the country, the journey feels complete. Your win feels personal to me, Sir.” Aaryan continued, “Congratulations to the real Champion! Words cannot express this emotion fully. Petkar’s achievements

Petkar, who was honored with the Padma Shri in 2018, is one of the 17 para-athletes selected for the Arjuna Award this year. His inspiring journey began as a boxer in the Indian Army, but after losing his legs during the 1965 India-Pakistan war, he turned to swimming. In 1972, he became the first Indian to win a medal in Paralympic freestyle swimming, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sports history.
