Kangana Ranaut Reacts To Buzz Around Renaming India: 'It’s Not Our Name, We Are Bhartiya Not Indians'

After Amitabh Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut has reacted to speculations of an official change in the name of the country from India to Bharat.

New Delhi: After Amitabh Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut has reacted to speculations of an official change in the name of the country from India to Bharat. Kangana took to social media and shared a screenshot of an old media report of her statement in which she had called for the change of the name India.

Kangana shared a screenshot of a post of her statement from 2021. She had then suggested that the country should change the country’s name to ‘Bharat’ from India.

In another tweet, she re-shared a post that said that the actor is always ahead of others. She wrote, "And some call it black magic …. It’s simply Grey matter honey (smiling face emoticon) Congratulations to everyone!! Freed from a slave name … Jai Bharat."

Kangana then wrote, “What is there to love in this name? First of all they couldn’t pronounce ‘Sindhu’ toh usko bigad ke ‘ Indus’ kar diya. Phir kabhi Hindos kabhi Indos kuch bhi gol mol karke India bana diya. From the time of Mahabharata, all the kingdoms who participated in the Great War of Kurukshetra came under one continent called Bharat so why were they calling us Indu Sindu?? Also the name Bharat is so meaningful, what is the meaning of India ? I know they called Red Indians that because in olden English Indian simply meant a slave, they named us Indians because that was our new identity given to us by British. Even in olden days dictionary Indian’s meaning was mentioned as slave they recently changed it. Also it’s not our name we are Bhartiya not Indians.”

In another tweet, she said that Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev also said the same years ago. She wrote, “My guru said it decades ago, I am nothing but mere dust of his feet, he is on Kailash yatra, he doesn’t know yet but this remarkable change of the name of this nation will bring him tears of joy, he will be returning not to India but to his beloved Bharat #Bharat #भारत.”

The buzz started when Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared on X a G20 dinner invitation from President Murmu which described her position as "President of Bharat", leading to allegations from the Opposition that the government was trying to change the name of the country from India to Bharat.

Earlier Amitabh Bachchan also took to Twitter, and simply wrote, "Bharat mata ki jai." He also shared a tricolour emoji with the post.

There has been no official word from the government on the issue yet.

The G20 Summit is being held in Delhi on September 9 and 10 under India's presidency and several heads of state from across the world, including US President Joe Biden, are attending the event.
