Singer Kalpana Raghavendar, who was recently hospitalised after being found unconscious at her Hyderabad home, has now shared a video clarifying the incident. In the message, she expressed gratitude to her husband, Prasad Prabhakar, whose timely intervention saved her. She firmly denied that any rift with her husband or daughter was the cause of her overdose, offering clarity on the situation for the first time.

Kalpana denies any rift with her husband or daughter

Kalpana Raghavendar released two videos in Telugu and Tamil to the press, clarifying that her recent overdose was an accidental result of work-related stress, not personal issues.

She said, “I am making this video to clarify a rumour circulating about me and my husband. I am 45 years old. At this age, I’m doing a PhD at this age and studying LLB with my husband’s encouragement. As for my music, I am trying to update myself and do different kinds of concerts. Due to all that stress, I have been unable to sleep well.”

The singer confirmed that the overdose occurred due to pills prescribed for her insomnia, causing her to lose consciousness.

“If I am alive today, it is only because of my husband. He got the help of the police and the media at the right time. Please don’t trust any news of me having personal issues. My husband Prasad Prabhakar is the best thing that has happened to me, thank God. I am so blessed to have him in my life. And the next best thing is my daughter, Daya Prasad,” she added.

Kalpana's alleged suicide attempt

Kalpana's husband called their neighbors when she didn’t answer his calls. They alerted the police, who found her unconscious on Tuesday and rushed her to the hospital. Initially suspected of attempting suicide, Kalpana clarified to the police that she had accidentally overdosed on sleeping pills due to insomnia. She had taken 8 pills initially and then 10 more, which caused her to lose consciousness. Kalpana also mentioned a disagreement with her daughter over her move to Hyderabad for studies.
