Javed Akhtar Shuts Down Trolls Over Communal Remarks On His Virat Kohli Tweet: 'Tum Kya Jaano Desh Prem...'

Veteran writer Javed Akhtar recently hit back at online trolls who tried to twist his words after he lauded Virat Kohli’s stellar performance in India’s match against Pakistan at the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025.

Veteran writer Javed Akhtar recently hit back at online trolls who tried to twist his words after he lauded Virat Kohli’s stellar performance in India’s match against Pakistan at the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025.

What Javed Akhtar tweeted

Following India’s triumph, Akhtar expressed his joy on social media, writing, "Virat Kohli, zindabad!!! We all are so so so proud of you!!!” While the message was straightforward, it didn’t take long for some users to inject controversy into it.

Javed Akhtar's replies to troll

One social media user attempted to stir religious sentiments by commenting, “Javed. Babar ka baap Kohli hai. Bolo, Jai Shree Ram!” Akhtar, refusing to be dragged into communal rhetoric, responded with his signature sharpness, “Main to sirf yeh kahoonga ke tum ek neech insaan ho aur neech hi maroge. Tum kya jaano desh prem kya hota hai.” (I will only say that you are a petty person and will remain so. What do you know about patriotism?)

Another troll took a dig at him with the remark, “Aaj suraj kahaa se nikla. Andar se dukh hoga aapko to.” (Where did the sun rise from today? You must be feeling sad.) This time, Akhtar did not hold back. He responded with a hard-hitting reply, “Beta jab tumhare baap dada angrez ke jootay chaat rahe thay tab mere aazadi ke liye jail aur kala paani mein thay. Meri ragon mein desh premiyon ka khoon hai aur tumhaari ragon mein angrez ke naukaron ka khoon hai. Iss antar ko bhoolo nahin.” (Son, when your ancestors were licking the boots of the British, mine were in prison and Kaala Paani. The blood of patriots runs in my veins, while yours carry the blood of British servants. Never forget the difference.)

India vs Pakistan

The Indian cricket team secured a commanding victory over Pakistan in the high-stakes ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash at the Dubai International Stadium, winning by six wickets. Virat Kohli delivered a stellar performance, scoring an unbeaten century off 111 balls.
