India's Got Latent Controversy: Mumbai Police have reached out to Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. The police have asked them to cooperate in the India’s Got Latent controversy and present their side before the investigating officer.
According to sources, Mumbai Police has demanded the original footage of India’s Got Latent from the show's organisers.
The police have requested the complete footage of the episode, the uncut video, and the original script from the organisers.
How it all began
YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps, has found himself at the center of controversy following inappropriate remarks made during his appearance on comedian Samay Raina's show, India’s Got Latent.
During the show, Ranveer posed a disturbing question to a contestant: "Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life — or would you join in once and stop it forever?"
Netizens' Reaction
The remark was met with immediate backlash from viewers, who criticised it as crude and inappropriate. Journalist and author Neelesh Misra also voiced his disapproval on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a clip of the moment and writing:
"Meet the perverted creators who are shaping our country’s creative economy. I am sure each one has a following of millions. This content is not designated as adult content — it can be seen with ease even by a child if the algorithm takes him or her there. The creators or the platform have zero sense of responsibility."
Ranveer's apology
After the controversy, Ranveer issued a statement, sparking a debate on content regulation on OTT platforms.
“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry," said Allahbadia after his remarks sparked outrage on social media.
“Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform and obviously this is not how I wish to use it. I am not going to give any context, justification or reasoning behind whatever happened. I am just here for an apology," he added.
