Junaid Khan, who made his acting debut last year with 'Maharaj', recently spoke about being diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age. Junaid shared how his parents, Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta, discovered his condition—and how it was linked to the making of the iconic film Taare Zameen Par.
Junaid on being dyslexic
In a candid conversation with Vickey Lalwani, reflecting on his childhood, Junaid shared, “Neither of my parents were particular (about my results)… I was also diagnosed with dyslexia very early on. So, I think they were mindful of that, especially in schooling.”
How Taare Zameen Par helped Aamir and Reena to know about Zunaid's diagnosis
When asked if his diagnosis inspired Aamir to create 'Taare Zameen Par', Junaid clarified that it was the other way around. For those unfamiliar, the 2007 film tells the story of Ishaan Awasthi, a young boy struggling with academics due to dyslexia, and how a compassionate teacher, played by Aamir Khan, helps him recognise his unique abilities.
Junaid explained, “Actually, I think it was a little bit the other way around. When they heard the script of Taare Zameen Par, they were like, ‘Ek second… We have seen this in our lives.’ And actually, it was at that point that they took me to a specialist, and I was diagnosed with dyslexia.”
