Dimple Kapadia Birthday Special: When The Actor Called Her 'Prahaar' Co-Star Nana Patekar 'Obnoxious'

New Delhi: Happy Birthday Dimple Kapadia. The actor had once commented about Nana Patekar's "dark side nicely and safely kept aside," calling him "obnoxious." She mentioned working with Nana Patekar once more in a 2010 movie. On the occasion of the 66th birthday of Dimple Kapadia, who is redifining roles for older women, we revisit the interview where she talked about her 'Tum Milo To Sahi' co-star Nana Patekar.

In the 1991 hit movie 'Prahaar: The Final Attack', Dimple and Nana first paired up together. They soon appeared in films like Angaar and Krantiveer together. They came together again in the 2010 movie Tum Milo Toh Sahi, which also starred Suniel Shetty.

During the promotions of the 2010 film, Dimple was asked about pairing up once again with Nana, in an interview with NDTV. The actress said, "I think he is obnoxious."

She added further, "In a good way, and a bad way. As far as his talent goes, there's no match to him. He is an extremely talented man. When I see talent like him, sau khoon bhi maaf hai. Sab kuch maaf hai. Meri jaan bhi lelo (A hundred murders, everything is forgiven. In fact, take my life too). That's the effect he has on me. But, as a person, with me, he has been very, very nice, kind, and a good friend. But I have also seen his terrible side...the dark side. We all have a dark side which is nicely and safely kept aside (sic).”

After making her legendary film debut in 1973's 'Bobby', directed by Raj Kapoor, opposite Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia immediately took a break from acting to focus on her marriage to Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna. Later, she made a comeback in the movies with Ramesh Sippy's 'Saagar', a classic movie that starred her opposite Rishi Kapoor and Kamal Haasan. She quickly made appearances in films including 'Jaanbaaz', 'Kaash', and 'Zakhmi Aurat'.

Through the latter part of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, Kapadia played roles that were appropriate for her age, such as a frustrated wife in an open marriage in Somnath Sen's Leela (2002) and a vulnerable mother who has been divorced in Farhan Akhtar's Dil Chahta Hai (2001). She was specifically drafted for both positions. In the past, Farhan had said that he would have "scrapped" Dil Chahta Hai if Kapadia had rejected it because he had written Tara exclusively for her.

She played a supporting role in Zoya Akhtar's Luck By Chance in 2009, and her portrayal of the incredibly ambitious diva from yesteryear, Nina Walia, who was trying to launch her daughter into the industry, proved she was timeless.

Dimple Kapadia was most recently seen in the women-centric action drama 'Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo.' She also gave impactful performances in 'Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar' and Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Pathaan'.
