Mika Singh Molestation Case: Bombay High Court Quashes Case Against Singer For 'Forcibly Kissing' Rakhi Sawant

High Court has dismissed FIR and chargesheet against singer Mika Singh for allegedly forcibly kissing actor Rakhi Sawant.

New Delhi: The Bombay High Court dismissed as well as set aside the 2006 FIR and chargesheet against singer Mika Singh for allegedly forcibly kissing actor Rakhi Sawant on Thursday with her consent.

As per news agency PTI, after considering Sawant's consent declaration, which claimed that she and Singh had settled the dispute amicably, a division bench of Justices A S Gadkari and S G Dige overruled the FIR and chargesheet that had been filed in the case. At a gathering at a restaurant on the outskirts of Mumbai, Singh is alleged to have grabbed Sawant and forced a kiss on her, prompting to the filing of the FIR. According to the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Singh was charged with assault and molestation under Sections 354 and 323, respectively.

After the incident, he vanished for a brief period. Later, a sessions court in the case granted him anticipatory bail. In April of this year, Mika Singh filed a request with the High Court for an annulment of the police's initial complaint and chargesheet.

Singh, in April this year, moved HC to quash the FIR and subsequent chargesheet filed by the police. The singer reportedly claimed in his argument before the High Court that the conflict between the parties had been resolved and that Sawant had even indicated in a sworn declaration that she has no objections to the Court's granting the suggested relief.

The High Court on Thursday read Sawant's affidavit, which claimed that she and Singh had "amicably resolved all our differences and realised the entire dispute had arisen due to misunderstanding and misconception on our part".

According to Bar and Bench, Singh's attorney, Falguni Brahmabhat, informed the Court that the case had been pending for the past 17 years. “Singh and Sawant have buried the hatchet, have resolved their issued and are friends now," she informed the Court.

The affidavit was accepted by the bench and the case was dismissed.
