When Amitabh Bachchan Said He Didn't Sleep For Two Nights After Aishwarya Rai's Accident

During the shooting of 'Khakee', starring Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Akshay Kumar, and Tushar Kapoor, a stuntman lost control of a speeding vehicle, causing it to veer out of control.

Amitabh Bachchan worked with Aishwarya Rai in many films including 'Mohabbatein', 'Kyun Ho Gaya Na', 'Khakee'. During the shooting of 'Khakee', also starring Akshay Kumar, and Tushar Kapoor, a stuntman lost control of a speeding vehicle, causing it to veer out of control. The car slammed into Aishwarya’s chair, leaving her no time to react and putting her life at serious risk.

Amitabh Bachchan, who at the time had not yet become Aishwarya's father-in-law, was visibly shaken by the media's treatment of the incident. He voiced his frustration with how the press downplayed the seriousness of the accident. Speaking to Rediff, Bachchan expressed his deep concern for Aishwarya’s condition and criticized the media for brushing the matter aside.

Amitabh Bachchan on media downplaying the accident

“I asked Aishwarya’s mother if she wanted to take her daughter back to Mumbai. We organised Anil Ambani’s private plane. Since there is no night landing facility in Nashik, we had to take permission from Delhi to land the plane at the military base which is 45 minutes away from the hospital. The seats had to be removed from the aircraft. And everyone is brushing it off as a small incident blown out of proportion,” Amitabh Bachchan had said, clearly upset with how the situation was portrayed.

"I couldn't sleep for two nights"

Reflecting on how the accident had left an emotional scar, he added, “For two nights I couldn’t sleep. To see this happen in front of my eyes! Her back was lacerated with cactus thorns. The bone in the rear portion of her feet is broken. She suffered severe cuts. And her injury was reported as trivial,”

Abhishek and Aishwarya's relationship

The accident occurred several years before Aishwarya married Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh’s son, in a lavish ceremony in 2007.

Recently speculations around Aishwarya and Abhishek’s relationship are in full swing. There are rumours that the couple are separated and Aishwarya’s recent outings without Abhishek have fuelled the speculations. However, neither the couple nor the Bachchan family has made any public statement addressing these rumours.
