Akshay Kumar Reacts To Controversy Over Hugging Shivling In His Song: 'Meri Bhakti Ko Agar Koi Galat Samjhe...'

Akshay Kumar's recently released devotional song 'Mahakal Chalo' has stirred controversy after a priest association objected to certain visuals in the music video, calling them inappropriate.

Akshay Kumar's recently released devotional song 'Mahakal Chalo' has stirred controversy after a priest association objected to certain visuals in the music video, calling them inappropriate.

Controversy over Akshay Kumar's song Mahakal Chalo

Mahesh Sharma, the president of the association, raised concerns over specific depictions in the video. Speaking to News18, he explained, “While the song itself is good, some visuals do not align with traditional practices. Akshay Kumar is seen embracing the Shivling, which is not considered acceptable. Furthermore, the way bhasma (sacred ash) is being offered does not adhere to customary rituals.”

Akshay addresses the controversy

Amid the growing debate, Akshay Kumar addressed the issue during a press conference for his upcoming film 'Kannappa.' Responding to the backlash, the actor, who portrays Lord Shiva in the Vishnu Manchu-led project, defended his actions in "Mahakal Chalo."

“Since childhood, my parents taught me that Bhagwan hamare maata pita hai. So, if you hug your parents, what is wrong with that? Is there anything wrong with it?” Akshay stated when questioned about the controversy.

He further elaborated, saying, “Absolutely not. Meri agar shakti wahan se aati hai, toh meri bhakti ko agar koi galat samjhe, usmein mera koi kasoor nahi. That’s it.”

Akshay on playing Lord Shiva in Kannappa

Akshay, who portrays Lord Shiva in ‘Kannappa’, shared that he initially declined the role twice. However, it was Vishnu Manchu’s steadfast faith in him that ultimately changed his mind. “At first, I wasn’t sure, and I turned down the offer twice. But Vishnu's unwavering belief that I was the right person to bring Lord Shiva to life on the big screen in Indian cinema truly convinced me. The story is powerful, deeply moving, and the film has turned out to be a visual masterpiece. I’m honoured to be a part of this incredible journey,” he said at the event.

Akshay praises the Maha Kumbh arrangements

The actor, who recently visited the Maha Kumbh, also shared his admiration for the arrangements at the grand event. He remarked, “I don’t think there is any other country in the world that can manage a crowd of 60 crore people in 45 days. Hats off. Everything was functioning seamlessly and harmoniously. My experience at the Maha Kumbh was truly remarkable.”
