Alaya F Thinks She Is Not 'Fully Nepo Baby’, Says, ‘Mom Quit Acting Long Ago’
Alaya F clarified that her mother Pooja Bedi left the film industry before she was born.
New Delhi: While Alaya Furniturewala hasn't been in many films since her debut in Saif Ali Khan's ‘Jawaani Jaaneman’ (2020), she has more than established her artistic worth in the handful she has been in. The actress recently stressed that she did benefit from her family's connections, but it would be wrong to assume that she had it easy just because her mom was famous. Her mother Pooja Bedi left the business before Alaya was born, therefore she claims she didn't grow up attending "industry parties."
Alaya F clarified that she does not consider herself a "nepotism baby" and that there are varying degrees of such favouritism.
The Indian Express quoted her saying, “I don’t count myself as a fully nepo baby, because you need to understand there are different levels in that. My mother was done with the industry, she had quit acting before I was born. I have not grown up among industry parties, that’s not been my life. So sometimes it does get frustrating because there are levels of nepotism. At the end of the day, I do come from privilege and that’s half of someone else’s journey. It does get me into rooms but it doesn’t really guarantee me movies. But reaching there is the hardest part. While I won’t deny the access, it’s the merit that takes one ahead."
She added, "You may agree or disagree, I am a nepo baby but it’s unfair to base everything I do to put it on where I come from. I have tried so hard to do much more and continuously do good work."
Recently, Alaya F co-starred alongside Karan Mehta in Anurag Kashyap's film 'Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat'. The actor's next project is U-Turn, directed by Ekta Kapoor. On April 28, 2023, Zee5 will air the film.
