Maharashtra Poll Results: After Initial Lead, Aaditya Thackeray Trails Behind Milind Deora In Worli

In the Worli constituency, Shiv Sena-UBT's Uddhav Thackeray's son Aaditya Thackeray is trailing against Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) leader Milind Deora, who seeks to protect his father's legacy.

Worli Election Results: What Happens when two young political stalwarts, both carrying their fathers' legacies, clash? Sparks fly. That's what's happening in Maharashtra's Worli Assembly constituency where Shiv Sena-UBT's Aaditya Thackeray and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) leader Milind Deora are fighting for supremacy.

Aaditya Thackeray took the lead in the initial rounds of counting, but soon fell behind Milind Deora by 9:45 AM. This is a prestige fight for both leaders as Aaditya, the sitting MLA from Worli, is trying to retain the Shiv Sena name in Worli alive, whereas Rajya Sabha MP and a Congress turncoat Milind Deora is fighting for his father Murli Deora's legacy.

Murli Deora had resigned just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year after Shiv Sena-UBT, which is part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, staked claim to the Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat. Milind Deora wanted to contest the seat, which his father had won six times. However, Shiv Sena wanted to field Arvind Sawant who had the momentum for the last two elections. Eventually, Arvind Sawant won the seat again.

Now, Milind Deora is trying his luck in the Worli Assembly seat and giving Aaditya Thackeray a tough fight. The Worli Assembly seat, which is part of the Mumbai City district, saw a voter turnout of 53.53%.

The final turnout figure in Maharashtra was pegged at 66.05%, which is the highest in 30 years.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections for all 288 seats were held in a single phase on November 20. Both Mahayuti and the Mahavikas Aghadi launched fierce campaigns against one another.

This was one of the most crucial elections in the history of Maharashtra's assembly as it follows two years of political turmoil. Two of the biggest parties in the state, the Shiv Sena and the NCP, split after surprising rebellions by the leaders closest to the chiefs of the respective parties. Both Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar were shell-shocked after their aides Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar orchestrated rebellions to secure the CM and Deputy CM's seats, respectively. While the Shiv Sena split in 2022, the NCP split in 2023.

In this election, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance sought to maintain its hold on power, while the opposition coalition, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), aimed to build on its recent successes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra.
