EC Seizes Food Kits With Rahul, Priyanka's Photos Ahead Of Wayanad Bypoll

The Congress party clarified that the food kits were intended for distribution to victims of recent landslides in Wayanad but was kept on hold due to Model Code of Conduct.

Ahead of the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election, the flying squad of the Election Commission, along with local police, seized food kits featuring images of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi at Thirunelly, Wayanad district. The kits, which displayed photos of the Congress leaders, were reportedly stored near the home of a local Congress worker.

The Congress party clarified that the food kits were intended for distribution to victims of recent landslides in Wayanad. However, the party stated that the kits had been set aside due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming bypoll.

The LDF, which is the ruling party in Kerala, has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India, requesting an investigation into the seizure of food kits displaying images of Congress leaders in Tholpetty. The Left party claims that the kits were intended for distribution to voters as an attempt to sway them in favor of the Congress in the by-poll.

On Friday, LDF district convener and former MLA C K Saseendran said, "Complaints were lodged to the Central Election Commission and Wayanad District Collector seeking an investigation into the issue." 

"The UDF is violating the election rules and norms by distributing food kits to voters in Wayanad. The kits carrying pictures of Congress leaders were distributed in the guise of assistance to the landslide victims," alleged a LDF leader, as per PTI.
