After Congress, Left Parties Announce Support For Samajwadi Candidate In UP's Ghosi Bypoll
Dara Singh Chauhan, a former Adityanath government minister, moved from the BJP to the SP and won the seat in the 2022 assembly elections.
Following the Congress, the CPI(M) and CPI(ML) have backed the Samajwadi Party in the September 5 byelection to the Ghosi assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district. The two Left parties said that they have taken the decision as "it is necessary to defeat the BJP to save the Constitution, democracy and the country and to get rid of the bulldozer rule in the state," news agency PTI reported.
The by-election, the first after the formation of the opposition INDIA coalition, is being fought out between the BJP, which has fielded Dara Singh Chauhan, and the Samajwadi Party, which has given a ticket to former MLA Sudhakar Singh.
Dara Singh Chauhan, a former Adityanath government minister, moved from the BJP to the SP and won the seat in the 2022 assembly elections. He rejoined the BJP last month, and his departure from the Assembly made the poll necessary.
In a statement, Communist Party of India (ML) state secretary Sudhakar Yadav stated that the INDIA and NDA alliances will square off in this byelection before the 2024 general elections, and that defeating the NDA is essential.
A similar declaration was released by the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
The CPI(M) secretary, Heeralal Yadav, stated that defeating the BJP in Uttar Pradesh is in the best interests of the state's people, democracy, and the Constitution.
Ghosi was previously considered a bastion of the Left, and after independence, Left politicians like as Jai Bahadur Singh and Jharkhande Rai represented the area.
