Uttar Pradesh Bypolls: BJP's Aman Giri Wins Gola Gorakannath Seat, UP CM Hails ‘Unwavering Trust’

Uttar Pradesh Bypolls 2022: BJP's Aman Giri emerged victorious beating the nearest SP rival, former Gola MLA Vinay Tiwari.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Aman Giri has won the by-polls in Uttar Pradesh's Gola Gorakannath where the elections were held on November 3, along with six other states. 

The bastion of the BJP sought to retain its hold on the Gola Gokarannath seat in Uttar Pradesh, the inital trends showed Aman Giri leading the counts. The election was necessitated after seat fell vacant following the demised of BJP MLA Arvind Giri on September 6. After the BSP and the Congress kept away from the bypolls, the battle was fight between the BJP's Aman Giri and the SP candidate - former Gola MLA Vinay Tiwari.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adiyanath lauded the victory tweeting, "Heartiest congratulations to all the hardworking workers and respected voters of the BJP for the huge victory in the byelection to Gola Gorakannath Assembly seat of Uttar Pradesh! This spectacular victory is a symbol of unwavering public trust in the public welfare policies of the double-engine BJP government. Thank you Gola Gorakannath!" 

The counting of votes for Gola Gokarannath Assembly constituencies began at 7 am. Returning Officer Anurag Singh said that 56 officials were deployed for the smooth conduct of the counting process.

The November 3 Gokarannath assembly bypolls recorded a polling percentage of 57.35 per cent. Seven contestants were in the fray. The BJP's campaign was led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Gola Gokarannath is part of Union minister Ajay Mishra's Lakhimpur Kheri parliamentary constituency. Mishra has been in the eye of a storm following the killing of four farmers during  violence in October last year. His son is an accused in the case.

During the campaigning, Adityanath had assured the electorate of clearing sugarcane dues at the earliest and establishment of a Chhoti Kashi corridor along the lines of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor in Varanasi and a medical college.

SP chief Yadav did not campaign and it was led by the party's state unit president Naresh Uttam.
