The tweet was made hours after minister Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the Yogi Adityanath-led UP cabinet on Tuesday and joined the Samajwadi Party (SP).

New Delhi: Amid a spree of resignations in BJP on Tuesday ahead of the Uttar Pradesh election, Samajwadi Party spokesperson IP Singh sent a lock as a gift to the BJP headquarters in Lucknow.

The order for the lock was shipped to 7, Vidhan Sabha, Hazratganj, Lucknow. In a tweet, IP Singh asked UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh to use the lock at the party headquarters after March 10.

"Omprakash Rajbhar ji, Jayant Choudhary ji, Rajmata Krishna Patel ji, Sanjay Chauhan ji and now Swamiprasad Maurya ji are with Samajwadi Party. I have sent a lock to BJP Headquarters Swatantra Dev Singh ji as a gift, put it after March 10 (result day) and go home. It's not a wave, it's a SP storm," IP Singh tweeted.

Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. Counting of votes will be done on March 10.

The tweet was made hours after minister Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the Yogi Adityanath-led UP cabinet on Tuesday and joined the Samajwadi Party (SP).

Three other MLAs -- Tilhar MLA Roshan Lal Verma, Bilhaur MLA Bhagwati Prasad Sagar and Tindwari MLA Brajesh Prajapati -- also resigned from BJP.

In his resignation letter, Swami Prasad Maurya said that he was upset at the sidelining of Dalits and weaker sections of society. Speaking to reporters, Maurya said dozens of BJP MLAs would resign in the coming days.

"Due to the attitude of gross neglect towards Dalits, backwards, farmers, unemployed youth and small and medium-sized traders, I am resigning from the council of ministers of Yogi (Adityanath) of UP," Swami Prasad Maurya tweeted.

Minutes after his resignation, Akhilesh Yadav shared a photo of him with Maurya on Twitter, welcoming him into the SP fold.

"I warmly welcome Swami Prasad Maurya, a leader who fights for social justice and equality, and all his supporters. There will be a revolution in social justice. Chang is coming in 2022," Akhilesh Yadav tweeted in Hindi.
