'Bihar Is Bihar': Tejashwi Yadav Dismisses Talk Of BJP 'Momentum' After Its Sweeping Victory In Delhi

Claims over the upcoming state polls that would favour the NDA due to growing momentum for the ruling coalition, Tejashwi Yadav asserted that Bihar is Bihar. It needs to be understood.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday dismissed claims that the sweeping victory by BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections would influence the upcoming polls in Bihar later this year.

The former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister emphasised that after reclaiming power in Delhi "after nearly 26 years," the BJP now has the responsibility to deliver on its promises to the people.

As the current Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Yadav briefly addressed reporters' questions regarding the Delhi election results, where I.N.D.I.A bloc ally AAP was ousted from power. "In a democracy, the people are supreme (janta maalik hai). The BJP has been voted to power after nearly 26 years. Hopefully, promises made to the people will be fulfilled and there will not be empty rhetoric (jumlebaazi)," Yadav said, PTI reported.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, whose party secured the highest number of seats in the last two Bihar Assembly elections, was questioned about the BJP and its allies' claims that the upcoming state polls would favour the NDA due to growing momentum for the ruling coalition.

Dismissing the assertion, Yadav remarked, "Bihar is Bihar. It needs to be understood (Bihar Bihar hai. Samajhna padega)."

In Bihar, the NDA is led by JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, who has served as Chief Minister since 2005, except for a brief period when Jitan Ram Manjhi took charge. Kumar, who is seeking a fifth consecutive term, has also seen his tenure marked by two short-lived alliances with the RJD.

Tejashwi Yadav Given Charge Of RJD's Bihar Poll Strategy

On January 18, 2025, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) authorised leader Tejashwi Yadav to make decisions related to the party's strategy. The decision was taken during the RJD's national executive committee meeting in Patna and comes ahead of the Bihar assembly elections set to be held later this year.

According to the resolution passed by the committee, Yadav can now take decisions regarding the party's internal matters and party tickets, among other issues, news agency PTI reported. The meeting was attended by the senior RJD leaders including MPs, MLAs, MLCs along with Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and eldest daughter Misa Bharti.

After being given the responsibility in the national executive meeting, Tejashwi Yadav said: "The trust that everyone has shown in me and the responsibilities that have been given to me are big. I will perform as per the expectations of the party leaders. It is only when the party organisation is strong, accountable, lives up to the expectations of the people, we will be able to win elections and serve the people of the state."

"We will win the coming assembly polls in Bihar. We have to make a new Bihar... a developed state... we have to take everyone along. We will soon intensify our membership drive," he said, adding that the RJD has a vision and blueprint for progress for the state's overall development.
