Ashok Chavan, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, made a significant political shift on Tuesday by joining the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Mumbai, just a day after parting ways with the Congress.
Amidst a warm welcome at the BJP's Mumbai office, Chavan, 65, joined hands with the saffron party in the presence of top leaders, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Reflecting on his recent political move after nearly four decades with the Congress, Chavan said it marked the beginning of a fresh chapter for him.
In response to the Congress party's comments about his departure, Chavan reiterated that he had received ample opportunities within the party but refrained from elaborating further on his decision to leave.
As the son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Union Home Minister S B Chavan, Ashok Chavan's alignment with the BJP has stirred speculation, particularly regarding a potential Rajya Sabha nomination.
