People of Amethi say it is "good riddance" as Rahul has chosen Wayanad: Smriti Irani

Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Kerala in addition to his traditional stronghold Amethi, where he is pitted against the Union textile minister. He was accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi and senior Congress leaders including K C Venugopal and Mukul Wasnik while submitting the nomination papers before the District Collector A R Ajayakumar at the district headquarters in Kalpetta.

The Union minister, who is on a two day-visit to Amethi visited the RSS office in Rajendra Nagar this morning before proceeding to the Lok Sabha constituency.
This was her first visit to Amethi after the Lok Sabha election schedule was announced last month.
Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala was an "insult" to the people of Amethi.
New Delhi:  BJP leader Smriti Irani on Thursday said that people of Amethi feel it’s good riddance now that Rahul Gandhi has decided to contest from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. “What can he do in Kerala when he couldn’t do any developmental work here,” Irani asked. In an interview with ABP News, Irani said she would want to invite people of Wayanad to Amethi and take a call on what has been done here in the past decade under the Gandhi’s desultory approach. Irani asked “why is the Congress chief trying to emulate PM Modi’s actions by contesting from two seats?” “The Congress leadership is gripped in fear and that’s the sole reason behind Rahul Gandhi choosing his second seat from Wayanad,” she alleged. Earlier she said his decision to contest from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala was an "insult" to the people of Amethi. Gandhi is contesting from Kerala in addition to his traditional stronghold Amethi, where he is pitted against the Union textile minister.  He was accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi and senior Congress leaders including K C Venugopal and Mukul Wasnik while submitting the nomination papers before the District Collector A R Ajayakumar at the district headquarters in Kalpetta. The BJP high command has given Irani to wrest Amethi from the Congress. In 2014, Gandhi successfully vanquished her by a margin of over one lakh votes. Extolling the virtues of Modi government's developmental schemes', Irani said "it is certain that the lotus will again bloom on May 23 at the Centre and from Amethi." Irani also tweeted, "While Rahul is taking support of 'desh virodhi' (anti-India) forces, BSP candidate from Gauriganj assembly constituency Vijay Kishore Tiwari is joining the BJP with a strong determination to empower the country." The Union minister, who is on a two day-visit to Amethi visited the RSS office in Rajendra Nagar this morning before proceeding to the Lok Sabha constituency. Irani also addressed a Kisan Rally in Parshedpur under the Amethi parliamentary constituency. (WATCH FULL INTERVIEW HERE)
