Andhra Assembly Results 2024: Jagan Reddy Resigns After Poll Debacle, Chandrababu To Swear-In On June 9

Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha Elections Results: In a major shift from 2019, the state voted in favor of the NDA with TDP bagged 136 out of 175 Assembly seats.

In a complete flip to the mandate in the previous elections in 2019, Andhra Pradesh has voted in favour of the National Democratic Alliance's TDP-BJP-JanaSena combine and reduced YSRCP to mere seats. Andhra Pradesh witnessed a crucial political showdown as voters headed to the polls for both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. The counting of votes, which started at 8 am, saw an initial neck-and-neck contest between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). However, the NDA soon began establishing its dominance.

Following his defeat in assembly polls, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday tendered his resignation to Governor S Abdul Nazeer, news agency PTI official sources said. Except for one minister, all the cabinet ministers of Jagan trailed in the polls.

TDP Wins With Massive Mandate

On Tuesday, Celebrations erupted at Telugu Desam Party (TDP) offices across Andhra Pradesh as the party, along with its pre-poll alliance partners Janasena and BJP, are poised to form the government with a significant majority. TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu celebrated the sweeping victory with his family. As per reports, Chandrababu is all set to swear in as the CM on June 9.

According to the latest figures from the Election Commission, TDP continues to lead in 136 seat. Meanwhile, Janasena is leading in all of the 21 seats it contested, and BJP is leading in 8 seats. The ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has been reduced to 10 seats.

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections

This election saw the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) contesting alone for all 175 Assembly seats. As part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Telugu Desam Party (TDP) nominated candidates in 144 seats, while the Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena Party (JSP) contested in 21 seats. The BJP vied for 10 seats.

The political landscape leading up to the elections was tense in Andhra Pradesh, marked by incidents of violence. Notably, on April 13, during a campaign event in Vijayawada, a miscreant hurled a stone at CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, injuring him on the left temple.

On polling day, May 13, YSRCP MLA P Ramakrishna Reddy was captured on camera allegedly damaging an EVM in the Macherla Assembly constituency, amidst the simultaneous voting for the Assembly and Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh. Data shared by the Chief Electoral Officer revealed that election-related violence resulted in the deaths of two individuals, injuries to 912, and damage to properties worth over 1 crore.

Furthermore, more than 100,000 individuals were bound across the state in an effort to maintain peace and order during the elections.
