After Cornering BJP On Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, AAP Questions Rekha Gupta Over 'Free Cylinder' Scheme

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now attacking the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi, holding the BJP to its promise of issuing free cylinders to the women in Delhi on Holi.

The Aam Aadmi Party is continuing its relentless attack on the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi. After the Delhi government failed to 'launch' the Mahila Samriddhi scheme on March 8, the AAP has been calling it a 'jumla' or gimmick. Now, the AAP has said that the BJP's promise of free cylinders to women is also a gimmick.

Delhi Assembly leader of Opposition and former CM Atishi said, "The BJP and PM Modi made several promises to the people of Delhi. The promise of Rs 2500 turned out to be 'jumla'. Women of Delhi were supposed to get free cylinders during Holi; only 2 days are left for Holi and women of Delhi are waiting for the free cylinders. In different parts of Delhi, women are protesting with empty cylinders against the BJP and their fake promises..."

The BJP, in its Delhi election manifesto, said: "We shall provide LPG cylinders for ₹500 to women from poor families, and one free cylinder each on the occasion of Holi and Deepawali."

AAP workers on Wednesday staged a protest raising slogans of "BJP Murdabad" in Delhi. They were seen being detained by the Delhi Police.

AAP leader Reena Gupta said: "Prime Minister Modi had promised to deposit Rs 2,500 in every woman's bank account on Women's Day. He has failed to fulfill this promise. He had made another promise that he would give free gas cylinders to everyone on Holi and Diwali. We hope that he will fulfil this promise."

Mahila Samriddhi Yojana In Delhi

The saffron party had also said: "We shall provide financial assistance of ₹2,500 monthly to women from poor families under Mahila Samriddhi Yojana." Although the manifesto did not quote any launch date, the BJP had later said that the scheme could be launched on March 8.

On March 8, the scheme was approved by the Delhi Cabinet. Union Minister JP Nadda said Rs 5,100 crore has been demarcated for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana launch. "Today, I am happy, and I congratulate CM Rekha Gupta and others that for Mahila Samriddhi Yojan, they have allocated Rs 5100 crore to implement it in Delhi," Nadda said.

The government still hasn't declared any date for the launch of the scheme.
