Lok Sabha Elections: Final Figures of Phase 1 to be Revealed Today

The Election Commission (EC) announced an aggregate voter turnout of 62.37 per cent in phase one of the Lok Sabha polls on Friday. The commission clarified that individuals in the queue at 6 pm, when voting officially ended, were permitted to cast their votes. The EC anticipates the voting percentage to rise as reports from all polling stations are compiled. Final figures will be disclosed on Saturday following the scrutiny of form 17A, stated the EC.

Polling occurred in 102 constituencies across 21 states and Union Territories in the initial phase of the seven-phase elections. The EC commended the high turnout, highlighting that the voting process remained predominantly peaceful. In the first phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the voter turnout stood at 69.43 per cent. Notably, some constituencies differed, and the total number of seats contested then was 91. States such as Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territories of Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep completed their voting process in a single phase on Friday. Lok Sabha Elections: PM Modi, Amit Shah To Embark On Karnataka Campaign

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Karnataka on April 20 to address public meetings in Bengaluru and Chikkaballapura, announced BJP election management committee state coordinator and state general secretary V Sunil Kumar, PTI reported. According to Kumar, the Bengaluru meeting will be held at Palace Grounds, with preparations currently underway. Additionally, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Karnataka on April 23 and 24, participating in a series of election campaigns. Shah will conduct road shows in various parts of Bengaluru on April 23 and address public meetings in Chikkamagaluru, Tumakuru, and Hubballi the next day. Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is also set to participate in campaign meetings in Karnataka on April 24, holding a road show in Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency in the morning, followed by public meetings in Madikeri and Malpe, Udupi in the afternoon and evening, respectively. BJP National President JP Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will also visit the state on April 21 and 24, respectively.

Lok Sabha Elections: With BJP Not Budging on Rupala, Rajput Leader Says Fresh Protests to Start Today

Some members of the Kshatriya community announced plans to initiate fresh protests against the BJP for retaining the candidature of Parshottam Rupala from the Rajkot Lok Sabha seat, PTI reported. The community expressed dissatisfaction with Rupala's recent statement during a poll rally regarding Rajput rulers' collaborations with foreign invaders. Despite ongoing protests, Rupala filed his nomination from the seat on April 16. In response, a meeting of top Rajput leaders convened to strategise ensuring the BJP's defeat on all 26 seats in Gujarat, as disclosed by Rajput Coordination Committee spokesperson Karansinh Chavda, PTI reported.

Protest actions will include impeding BJP campaign activities, women conducting relay hunger strikes across the state, and engaging with other communities for support. The community had demanded Rupala's replacement by Friday, the final date for filing nominations. All 26 seats in Gujarat are scheduled for polls on May 7.
