Lok Sabha Election Postponed In MP's Betul After BSP Candidate Dies Of Heart Attack. Check Details Here

The EC confirmed that the BSP candidate for the Betul constituency in Madhya Pradesh passed away on April 9, prompting the adjournment of the election under Section 52 of the RPA Act 1951.

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Wednesday 'adjourned' the Lok Sabha poll in Betul seat of Madhya Pradesh, which was to be held on April 26 in phase two, following the death of a BSP candidate. The electoral exercise in the seat will be now held in the third phase on May 7. 

The Election Commission confirmed that the BSP candidate for the Betul constituency in Madhya Pradesh passed away on April 9, prompting the adjournment of the election under Section 52 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. If a candidate of a recognised national or state party dies before poll, the election is adjourned to allow the party identify and field a fresh candidate, reported news agency PTI.

The Election Commission announced its decision to conduct the adjourned poll for the 29-Betul (ST) Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Pradesh during the third phase of the General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024, scheduled for May 7. This constituency holds significant importance as it represents a Scheduled Tribe (ST) seat.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), being a recognised national party, will have the opportunity to nominate a new candidate following the demise of itsnominee. The Lok Sabha polls are set to be conducted across seven phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4. 

BSP Candidate Ashok Bhalavi Died Of Heart Attack

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate, Ashok Bhalavi, contesting from Betul constituency in Madhya Pradesh, passed away after suffering a heart attack on Tuesday. Bhalavi complained of chest pain and rushed to a hospital. however, doctors declared him brought dead,his party confirmed.

As per report, Congress fielded Ramu Tekam from Betul Lok Sabha seat. At the same time, BJP has once again given a chance to Durgadas Uike, while Ashok Bhalavi was the candidate from BSP.
