'Had Enough Of Politics': Congress's DK Suresh Says Not Sure About Contesting 2024 Polls

The Congress, which had won just one of the 28 seats in Karnataka in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has now set itself a target of winning 20 in the general elections next year.

New Delhi: DK Suresh, the lone Congress Lok Sabha member from Karnataka and the younger brother of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, on Saturday said he is not sure if he would contest the general elections next year and added that he is ready to make way for any suitable candidate. The Bangalore South MP said that politics is not that good these days and he feels he has had enough of it.

"I have not yet decided about contesting the polls (Lok Sabha). I have to ask our workers and leaders, if there is a suitable candidate, I'm ready to support," news agency PTI quoted SK Suresh as saying.

"Politics now is not that good, I'm feeling I have had enough of politics, so my intention is to make way for others,” the Bangalore South MP added.

Responding to a question on some politicians having a thirst for power, DK Suresh said his only intention is to work for development. “What I have is the thirst to work for development. There is one more year for that, I will do it. After that let's see. As of now I have not decided to contest polls,” he said.

To a question on a possible understanding between the BJP and JD(S), the Congress leader said, “Let them have an understanding, let anyone contest, all of us have one vote and people will decide.”

It is to be noted that Suresh had earlier too expressed uncertainties about contesting the Lok Sabha elections next year.

Notably, the grand old party, which had won just one of the 28 seats in the southern state in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has now set itself a target of winning 20 in the 2024 polls, riding the success of an emphatic win in the recent Assembly elections.
