Jat Leaders Meet Arvind Kejriwal Over OBC Reservation Issue Ahead Of Assembly Polls

A delegation of Jat leaders met Arvind Kejriwal on Monday to discuss the inclusion of Delhi's Jat community in the central OBC list, a key issue ahead of Delhi elections.

A delegation of Jat leaders met Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday over the issue of inclusion in the Centre's OBC list at AAP chief's residence in the national capital. The leaders spoke to Kejriwal and kept forward their issues and demands during the meeting.

Ahead of the assembly polls in Delhi, Kejriwal has been attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party over the issue. On Monday he accused the BJP of attempting to undermine the integrity of Delhi elections.

"The BJP can abuse me as much as they want, but just tell me when will the Jat community, which is in the Delhi OBC list, be included in the Central OBC list?" he questioned while addressing a press conference.

"The Prime Minister will come to Delhi at different times and give speeches, but he should answer this question: when will the Jat community be included in the Central OBC list, as he promised in 2015?" he questioned further.

On January 9, the former Delhi Chief Minister wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to include Delhi's Jat community in the OBC list of the Centre. He accused the BJP-led Central government of "cheating" the community in the name of OBC reservation in the last 10 years.

The BJP hit back at Kejriwal's charges accusing him of "misleading" the public about the reservation of Jats in the national capital. The saffron party claimed that there has been no such discussion in the Delhi assembly nor any proposal has been sent to the central government in the last 10 years.

The AAP does not care about the welfare of Jats and is spreading a “false narrative”, alleged Kamaljeet Sehrawat, the BJP's Lok Sabha MP on Saturday.

“Reservation is a state subject. If the AAP really cared (about Jats), they would have initiated the process in the Delhi legislative assembly. Giving reservation to a specific group requires placing a proposal, forming a cabinet note, and sending it to the central government for approval. This has never been done by the AAP,” she said.
