Congress fields Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna, Manish Tewari from Anandpur Sahib

The Congress on Friday fielded former union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Manish Tewari from Guna (Madhya Pradesh) and Anandpur Sahib (Punjab) parliamentary constituencies respectively.

NEW DELHI: The Congress has released a list of seven candidates for the remaining phases of the Lok Sabha elections on Friday. The grand old party fielded sitting MP Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna Parliamentary constituency in Madhya Pradesh and former Union minister Manish Tewari from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab. Tewari had backed out from contesting from his Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat in 2014 citing health reasons. He was initially seeking the party ticket from Chandigarh, where the party has fielded former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. The list of seven candidates consists of three names from Madhya Pradesh, including Scindia, two from Punjab, including Tewai, and one each from Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir. The party gave a ticket to Shailendra Patel from Vidisha and Mona Sustani from Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh. In Punjab, the state's ruling party fielded Kewal Singh Dhillon from Sangrur. Dhillon is pitted against sitting AAP MP Bhagwant Mann and former state finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa who is contesting on the Shiromani Akali Dal ticket. From Bihar's Valmiki Nagar, Shashwat Kedar was made Congress' nominee, and from Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, the party put its weight behind Rigzin Spalbar. With this, the party has announced a total of 386 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. Also, the Congress is likely to announce the names of its candidates for all seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital on Saturday and its Delhi unit president and former chief minister Sheila Dikshit may be fielded from East Delhi. The central election committee (CEC) of the Congress finalised the names of its candidates for four seats Thursday. The party has also short-listed the names of former Delhi minister Yogandnand Shastri and Olympic medal winner Sushil Kumar for the South Delhi parliamentary seat.
