'Child Being Used By PM Modi For Gujarat Election Campaign': Congress Asks EC, NCPCR To Take Notice

The accusation was made after the prime minister posted a video of a girl sitting next to him discussing the BJP's leadership under Modi in Gujrati.

After accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using a youngster for the Gujarat election campaign, the Congress on Monday demanded that the Election Commission and NCPCR take notice, news agency PTI reported.

The accusation was made after the prime minister posted a video of a girl sitting next to him discussing the BJP's leadership under Modi in Gujrati. Many BJP leaders as well as certain ministers from the union shared the video.

Taking to Twitter, AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh asked: "A small child is being used by the prime minister for election campaign. This is a clear violation of the law. Where is the Election Commission? Where is the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR)?"

"This is blatant, but EC and NCPCR will do nothing," Ramesh also said in response to another Congress leader's charge in a tweet.

Suprya Shrinate, the spokesperson for the Congress and in charge of its social media, also uploaded the video and said that it was blatantly illegal.

"This is how children are used in politics -- PM Modi is using a small girl for election campaign. Is NCPCR's Priyank Kanoongo in Kumbhakaran's sleep? Will not write to the Election Commission now? Election Commission should automatically take note of it," she said in a tweet.

The Congress is attempting to unseat the BJP, which has maintained sway over the state for the past 27 years, in the Gujarat assembly elections, which are being held between December 1 and 5 in two phases. Results of the assembly election will be released on December 8.

Prior to this, the BJP had appealed to the NCPCR, accusing the Congress and Rahul Gandhi of employing kids for his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
