Elections 2023: Over 9% Voter Turnout In Chhattisgarh, 17.28% in Mizoram Till 9 AM

Assembly Elections 2023: Over 9 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Chattisgarh while Mizoram recorded a turnout of more than 17 per cent as of 9 am.

Elections 2023: A voter turnout of 9.93 per cent has been recorded in Chhattisgarh after two hours of voting, as of 9 am, according to the data of the Election Commission of India. In Mizoram, 17.28 per cent of voters have turned up so far to exercise their franchise. Polling for the 40-seat Mizoram assembly and 20 of 90 constituencies in Chhattisgarh is underway amid tight security as elections for five states begin on Tuesday.

Voting is also being held in the naxal-affected Karigundam area in Sukma after 23 years. According to ANI, the polling process is being held under the security cover by CRPF 150 Battalion and District Force.

Meanwhile, Congress candidate from Bastar, Lakheshwar Baghel, said that voter turnout is likely to be over 80 per cent this time. "Be it first-time voters or existing ones, the public is very much aware this time and the voter turnout is likely to be more than 80 per cent," he said.

Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati also emphasised higher voter percentage and said, "Mizoram is a literate state, literacy rate is very high. People are also aware of their rights. I appeal to all the people of Mizoram to vote and participate in the election and strengthen democracy...I think in Mizoram, people are well aware of their rights and the percentage of voting is very high. This time also I expect the percentage to be very high."

A first-time voter, Anisha spoke to ANI and shared her issue for the Chhattisgarh election. "...We expect all our issues to be resolved...Many a time candidates say that they will resolve the issues but leave (after elections) to not be seen anywhere," she said.

The second phase of voting in Chhattisgarh for 70 constituencies will be held on November 17 while results will be declared on December 3.
