BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht Who Won Muslim-Dominated Mustafabad Likely To Be Made Delhi Assembly Speaker

Mohan Singh Bisht has proposed to change the name of Mustafabad to "Shiv Vihar" or "Shiv Puri". He justified his proposal by claiming that the Hindu population was higher in the constituency.

Mohan Singh Bisht, the BJP leader who won the Muslim-dominated Mustafabad is likely to be the new Delhi Assembly speaker, as per ABP sources. Bisht won the Delhi Assembly Election 2025 from the Mustafabad seat by a voter margin of 17,578 votes. Mustafabad had the highest voter turnout at 69.01% in the elections held on February 5.

The BJP leader has proposed to change the name of the northeast Delhi constituency to "Shiv Vihar" or "Shiv Puri". He justified his proposal by claiming that the Hindu population was higher in the constituency.

The 67-year-old is the senior most leader in the new Assembly. Elected as an MLA for the sixth time, Bisht was shifted from the Karawal Nagar seat that he had won in the 2020 election. 

Some party leaders feel Bisht is a potential candidate for the post of chief minister. When asked to comment on the speculation, he said, "The party gave me the chance to contest elections seven times and I won six of those. I am a regular party worker and whoever the party chooses will carry the 'lotus' symbol."

The BJP swept to power in Delhi after more than 26 years, winning 48 of the 70 assembly seats. AAP won 22 seats while the Congress drew a blank in the polls held on February 5.
