UP Students To Get APAAR ID To Improve Academic Tracking: All About The 12-Digit Identification & Benefits

The 12-digit APAAR ID will be linked to the Aadhaar card, which will be used to keep track of the educational development and achievements of the students.

The students across UP schools will soon get a unique APAAR ID to improve educational tracking, document management and digitally store academic records and achievements. The APAAR, or Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, will replace the Personal Education Number (PEN) for students in primary and upper-primary schools.

The initiative, part of the 'One Nation, One Student ID' program, will track student progress from pre-primary through higher education. The 12-digit APAAR ID will be linked to the Aadhaar card, which will be used to keep track of the educational development and achievements of the students.

Under the APAAR system, the students are assigned a 12-digit identification number, through which they can access their academic records, which will be available lifelong. Students are required to provide their Aadhaar numbers in order to generate their Apaar numbers. In order to generate APAAR, the parents have been asked to provide consent through a written form during parent-teacher meetings. The school headmasters will then collect the consent letters of parents for the same and send it to the government.

The schools across UP have been directed to ensure 100 per cent compliance in generating these IDs, which will also be linked to DigiLocker for easy access to verified academic records. Apart from UP, other states like Assam and Maharashtra have also started proceeding with the implementation of APAAR in schools. Earlier in September 2024, the Assam government announced that it is taking steps for the implementation of the online registry for students. The Maharashtra State Education Department has also intensified its efforts to complete the APAAR identity generation for students.
